Flowers for Lisa: Thank You for Having My Back
Who picks up the slack when you're running on no sleep? I sent flowers to my work wife of 11 years, and you might want to send some too.
Friends, we moms really are superheroes. And no, I don't think that's an exaggeration. Just look at everything we handle, day and night. We solve a thousand little and big problems in 24 hours. Where's the pacifier? Are you hungry? Want me to quiz you on your vocab words? Do you need a hug? And on top of that, there's the housework, the shopping, the laundry, the job.
All of it can push us right to the edge of what we can handle, and that's exactly when we need good people who notice and step in. Maybe it's the neighbor who makes us soup when all the kids are sick again. Or Grandma, who watches the newborn so we can take a shower in peace. Or the coworker who says, "I've got this, go take a coffee break."
I'm lucky enough to have people like that in my life. And today is about one of them: my work wifey, Lisa. We've been a work duo for more than 11 years, and I keep realizing what a privilege that is. We're constantly in touch, giving each other feedback and asking for each other's opinion. We have the same work ethic, and we know we can count on each other 100 percent.
We're there for each other outside of work, too. How many times have we picked each other up when the kids had worn our nerves to shreds? There's so much understanding, so much support, so much care between us. If one of us has been up all night, the other takes the morning video call. If one of us is drowning, the other jumps in. That's wonderful, but definitely not something to take for granted.
Sending flowers is a way of keeping friends close
That's exactly why it's important to tell each other every now and then: I'm grateful for you. I'm grateful for your help and your listening ear. And is there a nicer way to say thank you than with flowers?
So if you've read this and thought, "Oh, I should say thank you to my friend/mom/sister again," just send her some flowers. And if you want to give yourself a pat on the back for something great you've done, send yourself some. Because as the saying goes: "Flowers are the smile of nature. You can get by without them, but not as well."
